Stevie Berryman began ringing handbells in the sixth grade and
continued through college at the University of Oklahoma and at several churches around the country as
the Navy kept moving her husband Paul from port to port. Now a civilian, Paul is employed at
Hewlett-Packard and he, Stevie and their young children Evan and Portia are happy
to be settled in Spring. Stevie is the Handbell Director at
Lakewood United Methodist Church and she runs Cut-Ups, a
custom quilt-making and design business from their home.
Catherine Bost is the newest addition to HBE.
She began ringing handbells as a 4th grade camper at the Texas Conference
Choir Clinic for Music and Worship Arts and continues to be a part of that
music ministry as a counselor and a member of the Board of Directors.
Much of what she knows about handbells she credits to another "choir camper"
and member of HBE, Ruth Seiwell. Catherine is a member of Friendswood UMC
where she plays with the Wesleyan Ringers Handbell Choir, directs the
Symbols of Love (children's handbell choir), and sings with the
Chancel Choir. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 2001 with
degrees in English and Psychology and received her Masters in School
Psychology in December 2006. She is currently substitute teaching
while she completes the requirements to become a Licensed Specialist
in School Psychology. In her spare time, Catherine enjoys reading,
cooking, and spending time with her husband, Lee, stepson, Trace,
and their kitties, Ill's Boy, Ill's Girl, and Diego.
Judy Clayton recently retired from
ExxonMobil and is still waiting to find some free time.
She is an active participant in the music program at Houston’s First Baptist
Church, where she rings in the handbell choir, sings with the
adult choir, and serves as lighting technician. Judy, husband
Duffy (yes, that is his real name!) and son Steven make exquisite
jellies and jams and share them with friends and family.
Jerry Conry graduated from East Texas State
University with a degree in Music Education and later returned to
obtain a Masters in Business Administration. In 2003 he returned
to Texas from the United Kingdom, where he lived and worked for
7 years. While in London, Jerry rang with the Hamilton Ringers,
representing the UK in the opening ceremonies of the International
Handbell Symposium, performing at the Victoria and Albert Museum,
and appearing on BBC television. Jerry joined HBE in 2004. He currently
resides in the Heights and works as a Contract Administrator for
the Department of Defense in the Houston area.
Monica Fowler keeps herself busy staying at home and raising her beautiful daughter Evelyn. She also enjoys her job as accompanist for Faith Community Church in Pearland where she is an active leader of the praise team and the director for "Bells of Praise" handbell choir. Monica also runs her own business through Stampin Up! She loves to spend time hanging out with her wonderful husband Matt, her adorable kitten Maddie and her even more adorable baby girl.
Ben Harris was appointed musical director for HBE in August of 2006. He graduated from Concordia University with Elementary Education and Director of Christian Education degrees. He later added to the degree list with a Master of Music degree from Rice University. He currently is a Program/Project Manager for Hewlett-Packard Company and serves as Handbell Director at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring. Ben and his wife, Marge, have two grown children, Rachel and Mark and recently welcomed new daughter-in-law Natalie to the family. He also somehow finds time to enjoy
reading, antiquing and working in the yard.
Cindy Haskett recently retired from
Katy ISD, where she had taught 7th and 8th grade math and Algebra
for 25 years. She rings handbells and sings in the choir at Houston's
First Baptist Church. Cindy and her husband Bill both work part-time
now in KISD and also enjoy traveling and spending time with their daughter,
Kristen, and her husband, Justin. Cindy is also an avid scrapbooker.
Erin Lillian lives in Lake Jackson Texas and has been
ringing handbells since she was in the 4th grade. As a registered nurse, she is the second medical
professional in the group, currently working in the home health field. Erin is the proud parent of 2 children, Tristan, who is ringing bells for the 3rd year at age 7 and Kayli who at age 4 loves to help conduct and is already planning her ringing career. Playing computer games is her favorite leisure time activity. She is the daughter half of a mom-daughter pair ringing in the ensemble.
Alys Lindholm is a transplant from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania,
who moved to Houston to pursue a career in Japanese translation
with A.D.V. Films, where she translates Japanese televi
sion shows
for release in the United States. She has been ringing handbells
since her teens. Alys is the daughter of a physician and a Presbyterian
minister.
Bernadette Maness is a native Texan and retired dental hygienist.
She is a member of the handbell choir at FUMC in Lake Jackson. When not ringing, she enjoys
gardening and tending a small backyard orchard. Bernadette and her husband Steve have two sons, Sean and
Chase, a 15 year old cat, Miss Kitty, and a pond full of fish.
Mary McEvilly is originally from the "show-me" state, where she graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla with a B.S. in Engineering Management. She and her husband Mike
moved to Houston in 1981 where they enjoy sports and the arts. In 1983, Mary discovered the wonderful
world of handbells and she has been ringing
since then. Daughter Melissa and son Michael have also played bells.
Lorna Noack grew up on a farm in northern Illinois and still misses four distinct seasons! She graduated from Concordia College
in Seward, Nebraska, with a B. S. in Elementary/Special Education.
She is happily married to Ken and is mom to Kristin, Kyle and
Bethany.
Ruth Seiwell is the Director of Handbells at First United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson. Educated as a chemist and clinical pharmacologist, she now works by day as the Practice Manager for a pediatric medical practice. She is the Handbell Camp Director for Texas Conference Choir Clinic and serves as Membership Chair for AGEHR Area IX. Ruth and husband, Bob, almost have enough ringers for a family ensemble, with each child and grandchild ringing as they are old enough!
Michelle Shuman is a pediatrician with Texas Children's
Pediatric Associates. In addition to ringing with HBE, she is
a string player in the Doctor’s Orchestra of Houston. She
rang handbells in high school in Garden City, Kansas, and continued
to ring with the Rhapsody Ringers during college. After a handbell
break during medical school and residency, she auditioned for
and became a ringer with HBE.
